Jennifer Coppola, Ph.D., LMFT
Dr. Coppola is an affirmative and inclusive licensed therapist who provides family, couple, and individual therapy to people of all ages and identities. A therapist dedicated to promoting social justice, she works towards providing emotionally-focused, culturally sensitive interventions. She specializes in work with couples as well as therapy that supports the LGBQ, transgender, and gender expansive/diverse communities. Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy and an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University, and an M.S. in Human Development from the University of Rochester.
Dr. Coppola's style is active, emotionally-focused and insight-based, and systemic. She considers all aspects of life when creating change. She assists people with observing patterns of feeling, relating, and creating more satisfying ways of living. She has specific training to provide services to the transgender community, including expertise to support all aspects of transition.
Areas of focus include: relationship issues (including but not limited to communication, commitment difficulties, infidelity, consensual nonmonogamy, mixed orientation couples), boundary development, parenting and behavior in children/adolescents, navigating life transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma, sexuality and gender identity, substance abuse, and couple/family adjustments.
Dr. Coppola is also a part-time instructor in the Marriage and Family Therapy Department at Syracuse University.
